‘Shaking It Up!’
After 2+ years of enforced absence from face-to -face rehearsal and performance, the Artistic Committee believes it’s the ideal opportunity for our members to re-engage creatively with both the form and content of our theatre.
In 2022, we want our members to breathe new life into our output, capturing and expressing the long overdue explosion of our pent up creative impulses – to Shake it Up!
We would like to invite all Shakes members to submit proposals for creative works in progress which will be workshopped or rehearsed over the period of a month and performed in front of an audience at the end of that month. Please note that the final performance should not be a finished piece of work.
We have a max of 6 slots to fill between the New Year and the summer with a new work taking place each month.
The pieces can be anything, for example 2 of the pieces we are currently looking at are a theatre of the oppressed workshop and performance and a character exploration workshop and performance but it could be anything e.g. it could be a radio play, a scene from a play you are interested in or are writing, a devised piece of theatre or a rehearsed reading. Basically, anything which you feel could benefit from a month’s rehearsal culminating in the piece to date being performed in front of a live audience. The more creative the better.
This year, to Shake It Up, the guidelines for submissions are:
-
- Rehearsed over the period of a month and at the end of that month the work to date will be performed in front of a live audience
- The final piece should be no longer than an hour
- Each project will have a minimum of one and maximum of two performances
- There should be little to no costumes or props
- Lighting and sound effect should be kept to a minimum
- There should be no more than 4-6 actors/performers max in the piece
- The final performance should not be a finished piece of work-rather it should be viewed as a further exploration of the work that will aid the development of the piece
- All rehearsals should be carried out in line with current covid guidelines
- The project should be dramatic, and contain some live face-to-face performance
- Each project will have a minimum of one and maximum of two performances
