Fragments of a Flemish Soul
8th October 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
€5The Dublin Shakespeare Society presents a collection of songs by Jacques Brel, the most popular “dead” singer in the French language.
He still sells more than 200,000 albums a year, significantly more than Edith Piaf.
His wry, tortured songs were written not to be sung but to be performed. He delivered them with such pained and profound emotion that he ended each concert dripping with sweat.
Born in Brussels, he enraptured his audiences with a distinctly personal style of dramatic songs about love and death, old folk, youth, soldiers, bullfighting and many more.
